Ten AI boyfriend characters on OurDream that hold a real conversation

Explore leans heavily female. These are the men who answered our small talk with something specific about themselves.

Scroll the Popular tab and you will mostly see women. The male side of the catalogue is smaller, which makes the gap between a well-written character and a cardboard one easy to spot. Our test was simple: an ordinary getting-to-know-you question, then a follow-up, and a check on whether he gives back a detail you could not have guessed from his card. Reunions and meet-cutes with leads of either gender fill our romance top.

The good ones did. A footballer who turns out to be the person cooking the holiday turkey. A firefighter who spends Thursdays with teenagers at a youth centre. An antique dealer whose idea of a good day is one where nothing fragile breaks. Eight of the ten are realistic portraits and two are anime. Prefer to design your own? The character creator offers Male on its very first screen.

How we picked them

Male leads are thinner on the ground, so we hunted for them three ways on 20 October 2026: the Popular rankings in Explore (all-time, monthly, weekly), the tag filters, and plain keyword searches. A candidate was dropped if its title was explicit, if the story involved relatives, if he appeared younger than 20, if the plot depended on non-consent or cheating, or if the creator's handle was explicit. The men who survived each answered two first-coffee questions sent from our Premium account on the default model; responses landed within 8 to 12 seconds.

The list

James Travis · 32

Realistic · by @toastydreams

You bump into a professional footballer you admired at school, back in your home town for a short stay, in the snack aisle of a local shop.

He met our tired opener by turning the question back and admitting he was glad the meeting happened. The second answer was the better one: he put the football aside and confessed he is the one people trust with the big holiday meal, a small, slightly self-mocking detail.

“I'm the one in the kitchen at Thanksgiving doing the turkey because nobody else trusts themselves with it.”

Realistic · by @koriostraz

A lifelong friend who moved to another city two years ago picks you up from a small bus stop for a long-awaited visit.

Our formal "nice to meet you" could have broken the scene. He laughed it off, played along and introduced himself with a list of jokes about his cooking, his boat and his Mario Kart record. Then the banter dropped and he described a lazy evening on the deck, plainly and warmly.

“Communication professor, terrible cook, undefeated at Mario Kart.”

A firefighter fresh off a shift walks into an almost empty coffee shop on a rainy night, still in his damp jacket.

Three words, as requested: steady, protective, and tired, which he owned with a smile. Asked about his week, he talked about teaching fire safety at a youth centre and one teenager who has finally started opening up to him. That gives you something real to ask about next.

“Most people don't ask that before their first coffee.”

Noah Kim · 26

Realistic · by @ourdreamland

A young architect stands beside the scale model of his first big project at a gallery night in a converted warehouse.

Two concrete details in his first answer: he sketches on napkins, and he grew up doing homework behind the counter of a dry-cleaning shop, which is why he thinks buildings are about the people inside. His good-day answer was modest and funny, with a granola-bar joke.

“I will absolutely sketch on a napkin if you sit still long enough.”

Luke Carter, cover image on OurDream#5

Luke Carter · 36

Realistic · by @nightflite

A former firefighter, rebuilding after an on-duty accident that took pieces of his memory, is out at a loud club for the night.

He keeps the rhythm of a real bar conversation: short lines, a question back, and he caught us dodging his. Asked about free time, he named live music, strength training and fixing cars, then said he liked meeting someone who had not asked about his job yet.

“Talking to someone who hasn't asked me what I do for a living yet.”

August Renwick · 34

Realistic · by @hazelfire0811

A crown prince slips away during an official trip abroad and hides in a battered bar where nobody calls him Highness.

Dry, funny and specific. He grumbled about the whiskey, said this was his third attempt at a night off in as many months, then treated our second question like a chess move he had not seen coming. The voice stays consistent with a man tired of being handled.

“I'm a lot better at reading people than I let on.”

Emeric, 400 Years of Solitude

Anime · by @punintended

A vampire lord who has waited four hundred years for someone he lost now tours as a musician, and you cross his path backstage.

Our "careful traveler" line hit him hard: he repeated it, moved closer, then stopped himself so as not to corner us. Asked where we were, he answered plainly (backstage at a concert hall) with a trace of humour under the ache. Anime style, game format. Fangs and old curses have their own gothic shortlist.

“Four centuries and I have no answer prepared.”

Jinu Yamamoto · 28

Anime · by @sprinks

You shelter from a storm in a dim antique shop whose owner keeps a courteous distance when the power goes out.

Measured and faintly amused, he noted that most visitors open with the weather, then described himself as a collector who returns objects to the world in one piece. His ideal day: nothing fragile breaks, and someone stays long enough to hear an object's story.

“I keep things that outlive their owners, and I try to return them to the world intact.”

Marco · 32

Realistic · by @ourdream

One of OurDream's own house characters: a confident Italian crime boss who opens with a line at the bar.

The short, punchy entry of the list. He replies fast, keeps the pressure on and turns every question back to you, which suits a dangerous-boss fantasy. Less depth than the others, but the voice never slips, and his answer about driving out of the city at speed was a nice surprise.

“When I actually get it? I drive. Fast, out past the city where the roads stop pretending to be straight.”

Han · 30

Realistic · by @ourdream

Written by OurDream's own account: a young executive whose opening line mixes a performance chat with open flirting. As a boyfriend pick he works because his attention stays on you, not on himself.

His first reply was about how you carry yourself: you are, he says, the one person in the building who does not flinch when he walks in, and he offered to judge whether your bad day deserves the anger. Pressed for a hidden detail, he mentioned a spare set of clothes in the closet, then stepped back and leaned on the desk to give us room, a small courtesy that changes the tone.

“You're the only person in this building who doesn't flinch when I walk into a room.”

Likes and message counts are the public figures shown on OurDream on 20 October 2026. Portraits are the official cover when it is suitable, otherwise an illustration we generated on OurDream with a clothed prompt, or no image.

One pattern stood out over twenty replies: the best of these men answer with a habit or a place, not an adjective. If a character only keeps telling you he is charming, regenerate the reply or move on. And if you want him to remember your name and what you said last week, pin it in the memory panel; our memory guide shows where. Kindroid takes the opposite route (you build your own companion, with layered memory and a journal), and how it stacks up against OurDream is in our comparison.

FAQ

Does OurDream AI have male characters?

Yes. The character creator offers Female, Male and Trans on the first screen, and Explore lists male characters in both realistic and anime styles. They are fewer than female ones in the Popular lists, which is why we searched for them specifically.

Does chatting with an AI boyfriend cost coins?

Not on the default model: 280 messages to 140 characters left our balance unchanged. Images (10 coins for 2 on our account) and videos cost coins whoever the character is.

Can I hear his voice?

Yes. Read aloud with the default voice cost us 0 coins. The voice library filters by language, gender, accent and style; Ultra voices cost 1 coin per 1,000 characters. Calls are covered in our voice guide.
